Educational Visit

 

Traditions Malta is proud to welcome your students for a FUN and Educational Outing which will be remembered for a long time!!

Students will enjoy the beautiful surroundings of San Anton Gardens, enter the President´s Palace, and visit Traditions Malta’s 200sq meters of exhibition area. 

 

These are just some of the skills that students will acquire:

  • Students learn to listen attentively and ask and respond to questions
    and retell stories;

  • The student engages actively in a TEAM BUILDING experiences.

  • Determine the purposes for listening, such as to get information in
    order to solve problems.

  • The students ask and answer relevant questions and make contributions
    in small or large group discussions

  • The student communicates clearly by putting thoughts and feelings
    into spoken words.

  • The student develops an extensive vocabulary.

  • The student can retell or act out the order of important events in stories.

  • The student uses writing as a tool for learning and research.

  • The student describes the order of events.

  • Student learns that a system is a collection of cycles and structures.

  • The student knows that information and critical thinking are used in making decisions.

  • Students rely on their perceptions of the environment, developed through increasing visual awareness and sensitivity to surroundings, memory, imagination, and life experiences, as a source for creating artworks.

  • The student develops and organizes ideas from the environment.

  • The student expresses ideas and can create original artworks based on personal observations and experiences.

  • Students can explore themes of an organism’s needs, adaptations, habitat, and role within an ecosystem.

 

Grade Level

Our program can be designed and custom made for Teachers and Children attending Primary schools from year 3 to Form 5. Please do let us know if you have any specific topics which you would like to include.  

 

Pre-Visit for Teachers

Feel free to come and visit Traditions Malta prior to your school activity so that you will have a better understanding of our exhibition and this will enable you to prepare your students better.

 

Schedule Visit

Every school group that comes to the San Anton Traditions Malta must be pre-scheduled. Please call as soon as you read this information in order to schedule your class visit (77344205 or 79381103).

THE PROGRAM

 

Arriving at the Gardens

Once you arrive at the garden we recommend that the teacher makes contact with Traditions Malta personnel.

Once your entire group has gathered, a member of Traditions Malta will greet the students and explain the activities they will take part in and hand each student a copy of the journal worksheet. Once each student is organized with a paper and pencil, you can start your walk through the Garden.

 

Activity Part 1

Students will go embark is an Educational Treasure Hunt using all their senses to come up with the answers questions and complete the required tasks. They can do this in smaller groups or as one group (teacher´s discretion).

Students will navigate through a botanical delight of mature trees, old stone urns, fountains, ponds and formal flower beds “hunting” for as many hints as described on the worksheet as possible. Teamwork will be the lead factor in establishing the winning team to get the required Dates, Names of trees and plants, Names of prominent people, sketch drawing and solve riddles and puzzles.

 

After you finish the 1st part of the Garden activity, as described on your worksheet, your group can proceed to the Exhibition area of Traditions Malta.

 

Activity Part 2
The 2nd part of the day´s activity will take your students at the Traditions Malta Exhibition area where they will follow worksheet. Students will be taken back in time and experience the art of lace making, cotton spinning, cloth weaving, glass blowing, stone carving, clock making, pottery, basket weaving, filigree, gilding and the creation of clay figurines. Traditions Malta is a testimony to the many skills, crafts and traditions that have shaped everyday life on the Maltese island.

 

Activity Part 3

After the students exit the exhibition area they will proceed to the designated area of the garden so that they will be able to summarize the activity as they follow worksheet 3.

 

Snack Time at the Maltese Table

The group can now enjoy a much deserved snacks surrounded by the amazing natural environment of the gardens. The Maltese Table is the perfect finishing touch to end our program.
For a minimal charge students will enjoy the following setup:

Tuna Rolls

Oven baked Imqaret

Coconut cakes

 

Ending the activity

The Students and Teachers will re-group and make sure that no litter has been left behind while making their way back to the entrance area of the garden.

 

Post-Visit Follow-Up

Objective Students will reinforce their learning about our traditions and heritage, our environment, eco-system as well as enhancing critical thinking, visual arts, and creative writing skills.
